Based in the Netherlands and founded in 2012, Vanquish Yachts is one of Europe’s most exciting builders of modern, high-performance motoryachts. Crafted specifically for adventurous individualists who wish to pilot their own vessels to rip-roaring speeds of up to 65 knots, the Vanquish range includes everything from ultra-fast water scooters and speedboats to sportfishing boats and superyachts.
The founder of Vanquish Yachts, Dutchman Tom Steentjes, is an entrepreneur with a difference. Ruthlessly independent, with a flair for doing things his own way, Steentjes founded his first company as a teenager. This business, providing custom metalwork for the fast-food industry, was so successful that Steentjes was able to sell the firm for a significant profit by the time he was 30. This allowed him to then pursue his true passion, the development of motoryachts, and so in 2012 Vanquish was established.
From the beginning Vanquish concentrated on driver’s boats for owners who wanted to directly experience the thrill of riding over the waves at high speeds. Among the first models were the VQ32, a 33-foot dayboat built for the Dutch Lakes, and the VQ50, a power boat designed for daytrips out on the Mediterranean. Steentjes then turned his attention to water tenders, spotting a gap in the market for a next-generation model of water scooter that was more powerful and more stylish than anything seen before. Today Vanquish designs and builds 8 different models, from tender to motoryacht, and is due to launch their latest concept, a luxurious 90-foot superyacht built around performance.
Vanquish’s focus on individuality does not just extend to their owner-operator concept, but to the fact that each vessel to leave their boatyard is a one-off custom-build. Rather than using prefabricated moulds, Vanquish handcrafts each yacht out of lightweight, yet durable, aluminium alloy for a truly bespoke service. Buyers can tailor hull design to better match the bodies of water they wish to traverse, while deck-space and cockpits can be customised to match an owner’s vision. Vanquish also benefits from a partnership with renowned naval designer Guido de Groot to bring the firm’s exceptionally modern and radically stylish concepts to life.
Due to the firm’s commitment to high-performance, only the very best motors and propulsion systems are used in their yachts. The firm has partnered with providers such as Volvo, Seven Marine, Cummins, MAN and Yamaha to provide inboard or outboard engines with top speeds of up to 65 knots, more than enough to leave other yachts in your wake. Handling is just as advanced, with Petestep or Bakewell-White deflectors and hull technology, Seakeeper stabilizers and Zeus joysticks providing smooth steering and agility.
A Vanquish yacht can be finished in whatever style a prospective buyer desires, though typically owners choose a modern, European theme to match the sleek and futuristic feel of a Vanquish exterior. Materials used can be as opulent and extravagant as you wish, with authentic marble, leather and wood often deployed to create spaces of exceptional sophistication and comfort.
Vanquish now operates out of a brand-new manufacturing facility of over 54,000 square feet in Marknesse, Netherlands. This factory has direct access to Ketelmeer Lake for sea-trials, crane capacity of up to 50 tonnes, and all of the latest mechanical equipment that their experienced and skilled staff require. Increased sales in the United States, meanwhile, have seen the firm open a service facility in Long Island’s Sag Harbor to better care for Vanquish’s growing North American customer base.
VQ16
Though more well known for their yachts, Vanquish also produce a number of water-tenders. Yet the VQ16 is no ordinary tender, rather it combines the luxury and style of a superyacht with the speed and agility of a water scooter. Yamaha or Veloce 350HP engines power this tender to incredible speeds in excess of 50 knots, while the tender also has seating space for five, making it one of the largest available today.
VQ80 Sportfish
This new concept from Vanquish emerged out of talks with an existing owner who demanded an adventurous and modern chase boat for fishing. The finished product was so successful that Vanquish decided to offer this model on the open market. A radically futuristic and angular design, this yacht stands out from the often conservative designs more commonly seen in the world of sportfishing. A sleek and practical tuna-tower dominates the profile of this vessel, while an elongated aft-deck with hydraulic doors to port and starboard provides plenty of room to haul giant catches aboard. Vast amount of storage space throughout ensure that you can put your catch on ice as well as store all the bait, rod and tackle you need for epic fishing trips. Kitted out with Garmin GPS technology, fishfinder radar and chart plotters, and powered by C32 Caterpillar engines for top speeds of over 50 knots, this yacht has redefined the world of sportfishing forever.
VQ88
Vanquish’s debut into the exclusive world of superyacht manufacturing, this luxury 88-foot-long vessel is the firm’s most ambitious launch to date. The VQ88’s brash and metallic exterior hides an elegant interior space with room for up to 10 guests depending on deck-layout. The yacht is just as quick and nimble as Vanquish’s smaller models, with top speeds in excess of 50 knots, a rarity for a craft of this size. The VQ88 also comes with two tender garages, one to the aft and another on the side, making this a superb choice for those who seek to play as hard as they ride.
VQ40 Veloce
A high-performance motor machine, the 40-foot VQ40 Veloce is Vanquish’s fastest model yet. With a top speed in excess of 65 knots thanks to triple outboard Seven Marine 627HP engines, and a low-draft, stepped hull built out of composite, few if any will be able to keep up with this pace-setting yacht. A transparent glass T-top helm station ensures you will stay dry even when accelerating to top speeds, while spacious and comfortable seating to bow and aft deck provide plenty of room to relax once you have reached your destination. The outdoor galley includes a kitchen with icemaker, wine-cooler, Corian countertop and electric grill, making this more than just a sports cruiser, this vessel is a destination in itself.
