About Back Cove Yachts

The Back Cove Yachts story began in 2003 when dealers from Maine’s largest yacht builder Sabre Yachts, spotted a gap in the market for modern, fuel efficient diesel-powered boats with the look, feel and size of the state’s traditional Lobster boats. The Sabre team immediately went to work designing Downeast-style yachts inspired by some of the oldest vessels ever built in the nation and produced a range of stunning and dependable yachts that are now sold all across the globe. Hand-crafted by 200 of Maine’s finest boat building artisans at a 240,000 square-foot factory in coastal Rockland, Maine, the yachts range from 30- to 40-foot cruisers, and more than 750 have so far been produced

MORE ABOUT BACK COVE YACHTS

Though Back Cove Yachts was only founded in 2003, it is a company steeped in heritage, producing a range of modern yachts that draw on the rich, historical tradition of Maine’s own Downeast lobster boats. Back Cove’s sister company, Sabre Yachts, was founded in 1970 and manufactures a range of powerboat and trawler models that can reach up to 66-feet in length. When Sabre wanted to design a more compact range of yachts in 2003, they decided to break ground on a new company, located in the town of Rockland, Maine that has served them so well over the years. Today Back Cove is led by President and COO Jason Constantine, who is supported by some of the East Coast’s most experienced and talented nautical designers, developers and sales managers.

Constantly looking to innovate and keep abreast of market changes, Back Cove nevertheless retains a focus on authenticity, bringing traditional designs into the modern, technological era. Yacht designs feature the company’s proprietary Trailing Edge Lifting Surface for smooth handling and performance whatever conditions their customers may encounter, while a range of high-performance engines can power their crafts to speeds of over 40 knots. Production facilities include the latest in vacuum infusion technology and a focused production line method to complement the company’s focus on hand-crafted details. Back Cove also ensures that all of their yachts are equipped with deluxe furnishings and finishes, from cherry wood panels to the internal walls, long sofas, Smart TVs and kitchenettes in the onboard salons, and luxurious staterooms below deck.

The very first yacht that the company brought to the market was the Back Cove 29, while more recently the Back Cove 340 debuted in 2018. The company has been recognised by industry peers and experts with numerous awards. The 340, for instance, gleaned the trophy for “Best New Powerboat under 35 Feet” at the 2018 Newport International Boat Show, and also won the show’s “People’s Choice Award”, emphasising the model’s wider appeal.

Back Cove Downeast 37

Designed with adventure in mind, this updated Downeast style cruising yacht exemplifies Back Cove’s superb blend of classic style with modern amenity. With an overall length of over 42 feet, a large single-helm deck and fully equipped en-suite master bedroom on the lower level, this model does not want for space. Yet the yacht is still compact enough to be a nimble operator, ideal for exploring coastal inlets, broad estuaries and offshore islands. This refined yacht boasts a high level of hand-crafted design, an interior built in the Herreshoff style with raised wooden trim and a gold leaf style exterior strip to the hull. A Cummins QSC 8.3 engine delivers high performance and durability up to a maximum speed of 29 knots, while at lower speeds this vessel has an impressive range of over 2000 nautical miles.

Back Cove 390

New for 2020, this Suzuki 350 outboard-powered yacht is one of the most powerful vessels in the Back Cove stable, with a cruising range in excess of 300 miles and a top speed of 37 knots. The Back Cove 390 yacht is as handsome and stylish as it is powerful, with lacquered finishes and wood panelling giving the interior spaces a classy feel. This yacht’s cockpit is conveniently connected to a fully enclosed and climate-controlled helm deck, ideal for those who want to socialise as they navigate their boat across the seven seas. An open aft deck is furnished with a wraparound sofa and cocktail table so that guests may take in the sun while they drink or dine al fresco. Below deck there is a spacious stateroom with a queen-sized bed, along with two further single beds for further guests or crew, ensuring that this boat’s unique charms can be shared with friends and family.

Back Cove 26

First introduced in 2004 as one of the Back Cove’s first models and now available as a used Downeast yacht, this boat combines the compact grace and sleek appearance of a classic Maine lobster boat with modern construction and high performance. Beloved by boating aficionados, the Back Cove 26 comes in two styles, either open bass or pipe supported hard top for those who want extra protection from the elements. Inside walls are lined with warm hand-varnished cherry wood, and interior spaces feature amenities such as kitchen spaces, bathrooms and a drop-down vee-berth that doubles as an entertaining space. The boat also comes fitted with a variety of diesel engines depending on your requirements, and buyers will be pleased to know that the engines are almost 50% more fuel efficient than most equivalent gasoline powered vessels. With a range of 265 nautical miles while cruising at a speed of 20 knots, the Back Cove 26 is ideal for long days spent exploring a plethora of offshore and inland waterways.
