42 feet long and 16 feet wide. Those are the dimensions of the Viking Yachts 42 Convertible, but they don’t do the boat justice in terms of just how much is so eloquently packed into that space. Appealing to both big center-console boat owners looking to move-up into a manageable sportfish as well as large motor yacht owners looking for a serious fishing tender, the 42C has all of the “fish-ability” and comfort features that today’s owners want.
There are a few signature features that Viking owners love and the 42C does not disappoint. The cockpit is battle-ready and includes the observation mezzanine that lets guests on board watch the fishing action in a comfortable place. The flybridge gives the captain amazing flexibility and visibility when fighting a fish and a comfortable platform when cruising. The 42 has a centered helm station on the bridge with port and starboard lounges along with forward seating.
Large center-console owners will enjoy having the accommodations that smaller boats cannot achieve. The 42 Convertible has a two stateroom, two head layout along with a bi-level galley and extra seating. However, Viking also created the option for 42 owners to have a third stateroom, one port and one starboard, which each have upper and lower bunks. The master stateroom is located in the bow of the boat offering extra privacy.
Owners have a choice of power options from Cummins that will allow for a cruising speed of between 28 and 30 knots depending on the model. Cummins is the manufacturer choice for the 42C and the QSB-440 with Zeus Drives at 440hp is the base model. Upgrade options include the QSB-480 and QSB-600, both with the Zeus Drive option. Since pod drives are more efficient than inboard powered boats at cruising speed, Viking reduced the fuel costs and raised the fuel efficiency of the 42, making her a great option for the center-console owner.
