Viking’s ability to take customer feedback and anticipate their needs in newly launched models has kept the manufacturer at the forefront of the sportfish and motor yacht industry. The 862,000 square foot factory in New Gretna has the distinct ability to create models within a model, giving owners the option to individualize their boating experience. The popularity of the Viking 48 Convertible in a crowded 40-foot sportfish category is a nod to Viking’s design ingenuity and craftsmanship. Off of the 48 Convertible hull and platform, Viking has created three variations for customers – the 48 Sport Tower, 48 Sport Coupe, and 48 Open.
The Viking 48 Open is an owner/operator’s dream that combines Viking’s quality craftsmanship, fishing functionality, but in a cruising format. The cockpit could be used for fishing but also offers room for diving, lounging, or other water activities. And with the Palm Beach Towers custom-fitted tuna tower, owners will enjoy the visibility and controls from up above.
The fiberglass hardtop deckhouse is raised up from the hull which gives the captain increased visibility as well as protection from the elements with the one-pieced wrap-around fiberglass windshield. The helm is centerline has excellent sightlines, hydraulic steering, single lever electronic controls, and air-conditioning for those warm days fishing or cruising.
The cockpit on the Viking 48O is 124-square feet of hardcore fishing space with enough room to move around during those exciting tournament moments. There is lots of storage available around the cockpit for tackle or other gear, transom fishbox, coolers for refreshments or bait, livewell, and Viking’s signature mezzanine seating for guests who want to watch the action. Viking also took the extra step to build in a space for the optional Seakeeper Gyro Stabilizer that can be added during build or at a later time.
The 48O layout is designed with two cabins and a shared head. The master stateroom is forward and includes a queen-sized berth with storage on both sides. The guest stateroom is starboard and includes over-under bunks. The salon and galley are an open concept design and include a L-shaped lounge sofa, dinette, and all of the cooking amenities needed to feed everyone on board. The interior of the 48O is finished with teak joinery and luxurious appointments throughout in true Viking fashion.
Owners are given several power options on the 48O starting with the base MAN V8 900hp diesel engines. For those that need more power and speed, customers have the option to upgrade to MAN V8 1000hp engines or the 1200hp engines.
