The Viking Yachts factory located in New Gretna, New Jersey is over 860,000 square feet and has a worldwide reputation for its innovative facilities and investment into new technology. It’s for this reason that Pat Healey and team developed $1 million computer operated five-axis profiling milling machines to create customized designs like house and deck assemblies for some models. This has allowed Viking to create “models within models” that fit the needs of the customer’s individual boating habits and lifestyle. With the popularity of the Viking 42 Convertible, it was only natural for the factory to create three more variations of the 42 – the 42 Open, 42 Sport Tower, and 42 Sport Coupe.
The Viking 42 Sport Tower offers the “fish-ability” Viking is known for and is well-equipped to compete in any bluewater tournament, while also providing luxury accommodations inside that center-console owners dream about. The custom tuna tower on the 42ST is built by Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers with Atlantic Marine Electronics installing the full electronics package prior to delivery. Owners will enjoy the 360-degree view from up above while also having the maneuverability of the boat from the tower.
The deckhouse has a three-sided fiberglass enclose with wrap-around windows and is also raised significantly from the deck for increased visibility. The centerline helm station and ample seating around the captain’s chair equal a great place to ride in style on the way to the fishing grounds or cruising the intracoastal.
The cockpit on the 42 Sport Tower is built for fishing, but also offers extra space for other water activities like diving. In true Viking fashion, there is a raised observation mezzanine with comfortable seating, air-conditioning, and coolers close by for any guests wanting to watch the action. The cockpit isn’t all about being comfortable though, the fishing amenities within reach of any angler are astounding. There is an in-transom livewell for bait with hinges that open to the left and right, fish boxes, rod holders, tackle and gear storage, and a built-in space in the deck for a Seakeeper Gyro Stabilizer.
Owners have a choice of either a 2 or 3 stateroom layout, with the 3-stateroom layout removing the lounge seating in the salon and replacing it with a closed off room with over-under bunks. The master stateroom is forward on the boat and features a queen-sized berth with storage on all sides. The guest stateroom in either layout comes with side-by-side twin beds. Owners also have the option of either a 1 or 2 head layout. When selecting the three-stateroom layout, the master suite has its own private bath.
Powering the Viking 42ST is a standard pair of Cummins QSB 440hp diesel engines with Zeus drives, but owners can opt to upgrade to 480hp or 600hp Cummins engines. There is also a MAN V8 1000hp option for those wishing to achieve maximum speed. For more information on the Viking Yachts 42 Sport Tower, contact your Staten Island Yacht Sales representative.
