The Viking 38 Billfish is the latest sub-40 foot sportfish from Viking Yachts that is aimed at the owner/operator that wants an easily managed, fast, hardcore fishing machine.. Its predecessor, the 37 Billfish, sold countless models the last two years and has been an excellent segway for large center-console owners to migrate into the comfort and range of a sportfish similar in size. Lauded as a superior owner/operator sportfishing boat, the 37 Billfish gave Viking an opportunity to appeal to the boater that wanted a smaller vessel, but still have the big fish capability as Viking's larger models.
The new Viking 38 Billfish will be built with the same design concept as the 37 Billfish that excelled at offering the owner/operator a boat that is easy to maintain, fun to drive, versatile in its capabilities, and come with powerful (and reliable) inboard diesel engines. "We are very excited about the new 38 Billfish," said Rich Lucas, SI Yachts Viking Brand Manager. "Our customers were really excited when the 37 Billfish first came out and I'm sure they will be chomping at the bit to get on this boat at the Miami Show."
As with all Viking's the 37 Billfish is designed with the angler in mind first and foremost. The fishing capabilities on this boat are phenomenal. The aft cockpit is going to have plenty of live-well space, rod holders, and fish boxes, as well as Viking's signature Observation Mezzanine space. And at 109 square feet, it is the largest cockpit space for a boat in its class which should immediately excite anyone looking to do any tournament fishing. The flybridge sports a centerline walk-around helm that offers both extra seating and excellent visibility for backing down on fish. Owners can opt for either one helm chair (standard) and an extra chair as an option.
The 38 Billfish's command deck is perhaps one of the most intriguing aspects for a center-console owner who wants a nice liveaboard space to get out of the elements. The salon area has both a U-shaped dinette along with a hi-lo table for extra dining areas on board. The galley is well-equipped and offers enough storage space that extended trips on board are no problem. And as with all Viking's, the New Gretna-based design team put just as much effort into the sleeping accommodations as they did the fishing amenities. Below deck, the 38 Billfish has a large forward stateroom where owners can either put a queen-sized berth or choose crossover bunks.
