Dubbed a “pocket superyacht” by Boat International, the Princess 88 Motor Yacht has many of the same characteristics as the Princess M-series range. The Princess factory has long been successful in building yachts in the 70 to 90-foot segment, but today’s buyer has increased expectations when it comes to performance, space, and fuel efficiencies. Engines are smaller today, but the need for speed has increased which means technology has also had to improve. The 88MY, which took the place of the Princess 85, is now built with a high-quality resin-infusion process which not only adds more space to the boat, but also increases speed without bigger engines. The deep-V hull design also improves fuel efficiency while also contributing to the performance abilities by taking attributes found on the award-winning Princess 40M and using them to enhance the 88 Motor Yacht.
Whether lounging in the sun, dining outside, or driving the 88MY, the stunning flybridge is the center piece of this yacht and where everyone on board will enjoy spending time. Aft on the flybridge is a space for multiple sun lounging chairs that extend just beyond the flybridge hardtop which gives sun bathers enough light and a very enjoyable view. Just forward of the sun loungers is a lift for an optional tender and a 6 person jacuzzi. U-shaped seating is portside with a large pedestal table for al fresco dining and is directly across from the flybridge bar with comes with a grill, ice maker, and more storage. The flybridge helm is equally as impressive as it includes multiple areas for guests to sit with the captain while underway.
The aft cockpit on the 88 Motor Yacht is reminiscent of the cockpit on the Princess M-series models as it includes a lot of space, a beautiful U-shaped seating arrangement, convertible dining table for outside means, and a wet bar for making and serving drinks. Moving inside the salon through two very substantial glass doors, there is a lot of natural light through several very large windows along with a sliding glass door that opens up to a side drop-down balcony on the starboard side. A L-shaped sofa, loveseats, and extra chairs separate the salon area from the formal dining area which comfortably seats 8 people. The galley has all of the cooking features needed to feed hungry guests and crew including full-size refrigerator and freezer, microwave, electric cooktop and oven, and lots of storage for food and supplies.
The standard layout on the Princess 88 Motor Yacht includes a four-stateroom layout, however the master suite can be split to make the 88MY a five-stateroom boat. In the standard layout, the master suite is places amidships with a forward VIP stateroom, a guest stateroom starboard with a double bed, and an additional guest cabin portside with twin bunks. For maximum privacy, the four-stateroom option gives each cabin their own head with shower stall and lots of storage for extended trips. As with most yachts in this range, designing crew accommodations that are comfortable can be a challenge, but Princess designed an area on board for a spacious captain’s cabin and room for two additional crew members, plus a small eating area and washer/dryer.
Princess gave the 88MY a variety of power options for multiple cruising needs. The base power package includes twin MTU 12V 2000 M93 1822hp engines, however owners can choose to upgrade to the twin CAT C32-A 1825hp or 1925hp engines. When using the CAT 1825hp option, the 88MY can obtain speeds of 27-28 knots with a comfortable and efficient cruise speed in the lower 20-knot range.
