The popularity and desire for power catamarans continues to grow as boat owners looking for more space on board warm to the idea of being able to handle a yacht with a substantial beam. Prestige Yachts has clearly made a commitment to the M-line range which began with the M8's smaller sibling, the M48.
The M8 has all of the best characteristics of a multihull yacht - the low fuel consumption (including a 350 nautical mile cruising range), incredible room on board, stability at anchor, endless storage compartments, and space to easily move around. To be clear, Prestige has not converted a sailing catamaran into a power cat design. The M8 is truly a power cat with all of the best attributes you associate with Prestige - a home away from home, on the ocean.
"When you step on board a Prestige M-line, it's like walking into someone's house," says Jay Hendrix, Vice President of SI Yachts. "There is so much space between each area of the boat and between the furniture. No one is cramped. The fit and finish is excellent. Prestige has done a remarkable job creating a comfortable boat that enhances your surroundings. The master suite is like 350 square feet!"
The shipyard describes the M8's abilities as "smooth, serene cruising" that is "respectful of the environment with reduced energy consumption" and promises to facilitate those "precious moments on the water."

Exterior Areas For Socializing
With a beam of nearly 30-feet, there is plenty of opportunity to create marvelous living areas outdoors that would normally by inconceivable on a monohull yacht. The layout and decor in the exterior social areas is reminiscent of a terrace overlooking the French Riviera, or could easily be a beach club in Miami. The colors are light, the furniture is contemporary, and it becomes easy to lose yourself in the lavishness in the moment.
The flybridge is the epicenter of the M8, a true villa raised high above the water with infinite views. Ascending the portside staircase leads to the aft deck of the flybridge which immediately freets you with ample seating room. Farthest aft, there is space for multiple sunloungers while several over-sized sofas (including one that resembles a sunpad) are found starboard. The wetbar, grill and 8-person dining table provide the al fresco dinner experience you seek. Forward is the upper helm station with complete navigational electronics and controls, with additional seating nearby.
The main deck is one extra-large, fluid area where movement from bow to stern is done with ease. The foredeck lounge area is truly a sunbather's paradise. Closest to the windshield is a massive sunpad that can fit multiple people on a flat surface so there's no laying at an angle. Moving forward and down two steps is another large seating area with two sofas facing each other. Both are large enough that they could easily double as more sunloungers.
Farthest aft is the hydraulic platform, however this is much more substantial than your normal swim platform. It is more than 13 feet wide, providing ample room to board a tender when lowered into the water or serve as a water-side beach club when chairs are added. Nearby, Prestige has placed a deep storage locker for water toys, Seabobs, paddleboards, and more.
Getting out of the sun while staying outdoors is easy with the cockpit seating area. Owners have the option of choosing a traditional cockpit table for the aft deck or using this space for loveseats and sofas. The flybridge overhang provides ample shade for you and your guests. There are two sliding cockpit doors that open to reveal the salon and integrate the main deck from inside and out.
Interior Seating & Accommodations
Light, space, and comfort are the notable characteristics of the Prestige M8's interior. Large windows line the salon, allowing sunlight to infiltrate every square inch of the salon. The interior space is so voluminous that it is being compared to traditional monohull yachts in the 85-foot range.
Owners building their own M8 will have a layout choice regarding the galley with two different configurations. The first 'galley-up' option puts the u-shaped kitchen on the starboard side of the main deck. For those wanting to be a part of the conversation in the salon, this is a popular option. If you're looking to place the M8 into charter or want the galley hidden, the second configuration places it below in the starboard side hull.
The decor, color palette, furniture, and windows all harmoniously complement your on-water experience with Prestige's clear commitment luxury and comfort. Again, the fit-and-finish of the M8 is comparable to the most distinguished luxury superyacht builders today.
Below the main deck in each hull are the cabins for the owners and guests. With the galley down layout is chosen, the M8 features four cabins including a full-beam master suite please forward on an elevated deck, complete with en suite bathroom. The other double-sized guest cabins also have en suite heads and take full advantage of the additional space provided by the large beam. With the galley up layout, an additional VIP cabin is created on the portside that features an additional seating area.
Power & Performance
As with any power catamaran, fuel efficiency is one of the driving purchase points for any potential owner and no engine manufacturer does this better than Volvo. Twin D8 600HP V-Drive engines power the M8 and the nearly 1,000 gallons in the fuel tank, when operated at an efficient speed, will provide a range of 350 nautical miles. The cruise speed of 15 knots is comfortable, but it opens up to 20 knots for those moments when you need to outrun weather. Even though this is a power catamaran, it still has the ability to get moving when you want it to.
