World Geography and Oceans: Online Games and Quizzes

Written By: Frank Bongiorno

Geography is the study of the physical features of Earth and all of the lands, oceans, and cities around the world. When you learn about geography, you often focus on maps of the world, which offer a bird's-eye view of the seven continents and five oceans that make up the planet we live on.

The total land surface area of Earth is 57,308,738 square miles, and that doesn't count the bodies of water, which make up about 71 percent of the planet's surface area. Earth is a pretty big place!

Earth's surface has five large bodies of water called oceans, which are all connected but considered distinctly different. They are called the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Southern Ocean. These oceans separate several large landmasses called continents, which are Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.

Learning about geography is a great way to explore your city, your country, and the world in general. When you study different places, you can learn how they're different and how they're connected to each other. Learning about what makes places similar and different from one another is what geography is all about!

If you find that you're interested in learning more about geography and even making it your career one day, you might want to become a cartographer. Cartographers are people who make maps. They go out into the world to study what's out there and make sure that our maps are up to date. The best way to get started learning about geography is by studying the existing maps of the world, from the United States to far-away continents and oceans. You can learn about geography and have fun doing it by trying out some of the fun games and quizzes available online.
